Awesome Gourmet offers TRUE wild rice, an indigenous plant of North America. It is grown and harvested in Minnesota by native Americans (descendents of Ojibwa), employing a labor-intensive, slow and careful process. It still is harvested by hand in lakes where motorized boats are forbidden, from small wooden boats or canoes by two persons, where one maneuvers the boat while the other gently knocks the sweet and nutty grain into the boat with his “rice stick”. Unlike paddy-grown “wild rice”, this is a more nutritious grain; it has more protein than wheat, lower fat than corn, and “is bursting with” thiamine, fiber, riboflavin, zinc, vitamin B, potassium, and phosphorus.
